'Ella' Carmenère Reserva BIO 2023 displays a deep, vibrant ruby red color. On the nose, ripe berries, black cherries, and blackberries predominate, complemented by spicy notes and a hint of dried fruit. On the palate, the wine is fruit-driven and medium-bodied, with juicy black fruit, soft spices, and supple tannins, finishing with a long, balanced aftertaste.
Ella is a cuvée from Viña Las Niñas, a winery in Apalta founded in 1996 by Bernard Dauré together with his friends Jean Pierre Cayard and Claude Florensa. The name Las Niñas ("the girls") is a tribute to the women of the three families, who were closely involved in the development of the winery. Since 2021, Las Niñas has operated as an independent wine company.
The vineyards are located in Apalta, in the Colchagua Valley, about a two-hour drive from Santiago. The horseshoe-shaped valley lies sheltered between hills at an altitude of approximately 600 meters and benefits from cool sea breezes, which extend the ripening period and preserve the acidity in the grapes. The 160 hectares of vineyards are cultivated organically and include, in addition to Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay.
