Bodega Raíces Ibéricas Albarín 2025 is a distinctive Spanish white wine that immediately sparks curiosity. Not only because of its fresh, fruity character, but especially because of the grape variety it is made from: Albarín. This almost forgotten Spanish grape has been enjoying a revival in recent years, and for good reason!
The Albarín grape originates from Asturias in northern Spain. From there, it gradually spread to Cantabria and Castilla y León. For a long time, this unusual variety was in danger of disappearing, but fortunately, winemakers decided to replant it and bring it back to life. Some vines are even more than a hundred years old. With only around 66 hectares planted worldwide, Albarín remains a true rarity. This wine certainly has a story to tell!
Bodega Raíces Ibéricas gives this traditional grape plenty of room to express its individual character. The vineyards are located in the Tierra de León region, where the climate and growing conditions help produce beautifully aromatic grapes. The result is an expressive white wine with an inviting bouquet and a wonderfully lively personality.
In the glass, the wine displays a pale yellow colour with delicate green reflections. Bring the glass to your nose and an attractive range of aromas unfolds. Think fragrant flowers, ripe fruit and enticing tropical notes. Hints of citrus and subtle spices add another layer of complexity. It is wonderfully inviting and immediately makes you want to take a sip.
On the palate, this Albarín is fresh, fruity and vibrant. The tropical fruit flavours return, accompanied by lively citrus notes and a gentle touch of spice. The wine is smooth and approachable, with plenty of freshness to keep things interesting. It is not a complicated wine, but one in which the unique character of the grape takes centre stage. The finish is pleasant, refreshing and full of flavour.
What makes this wine particularly exciting is the opportunity to discover a grape variety that you rarely come across. We all know Verdejo, Albariño and Godello, but Albarín certainly deserves a place alongside them.
A delightful discovery for anyone who enjoys fresh, aromatic white wines and loves trying something a little different. The 2025 vintage has also received an impressive 93 points from James Suckling.
In short: a distinctive Spanish white wine with an interesting story, plenty of fruit and a wonderfully fresh personality. A lovely discovery from northern Spain!
