Description
The Jurtschitsch Grüner Veltliner Brut Nature Sekt Große Reserve is an exceptional sparkling wine from the Austrian Kamptal. Crafted by the renowned organic winery Weingut Jurtschitsch in Langenlois, this sparkling wine represents the highest tier of the Austrian Sekt quality pyramid. It perfectly reflects a winemaking philosophy of minimalism, a cool climate, and traditional craftsmanship.
The foundation of this Sekt consists entirely of Grüner Veltliner grapes grown in high-altitude, cool vineyards around Mittelberg. The grapes are strictly selected, harvested exclusively by hand, and pressed with extreme care. The base wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and matures in large, traditional oak casks. Following this, the wine undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle according to the traditional method. What makes this Große Reserve outstanding is its exceptionally long aging period. The bottles rest on the lees (yeast cells) in the cool cellars for at least 36 to 48 months. This intensive process grants the Sekt its deep complexity, creamy texture, and highly refined, persistent bubbles.
Because it is a 'Brut Nature', no sugar is added via the dosage before the final corking. With a natural residual sugar level of only 1.8 grams per liter, the wine is bone-dry. This approach keeps the spotlight entirely on the limestone soils, the terroir, and the pure expression of the grape variety. In the glass, this translates into a pale gold color with a lively, elegant mousse.
The nose opens with fresh aromas of green apple, lemon zest, and the classic white pepper signature of Grüner Veltliner. Thanks to the extensive yeast contact, subtle notes of brioche, yeast, and toasted almonds also emerge. On the palate, the Sekt is razor-sharp and pure, driven by a refreshing acidity and a striking, salty minerality in the finish.
This sparkling wine shines brightly during food pairings. While many sparkling wines lack the structure to cut through rich or savory dishes, the crisp acidity of this Brut Nature handles them effortlessly. It is a fantastic companion for oysters, shellfish, and raw fish dishes like sea bass tartare. It also pairs wonderfully with a classic Wiener Schnitzel or fresh seasonal vegetables like white asparagus. For the best tasting experience, serve it chilled between 6 and 10 degrees Celsius in a generous glass.
