Domaine des Bernard La Côte 2023 – A Benchmark Chenin Blanc from Chinon
Domaine des Bernard La Côte 2023 showcases the remarkable potential of Chenin Blanc in Chinon, a region better known for Cabernet Franc. Produced from carefully selected hillside vineyards in Cravant-les-Coteaux, this wine expresses the unique limestone-rich terroir that defines some of the Loire Valley's most exciting white wines.
The bouquet reveals elegant notes of white blossom, peach, quince, pear and subtle oak nuances. On the palate, the wine combines richness and precision, delivering layered fruit, vibrant acidity and a pronounced mineral backbone. The extended barrel ageing contributes texture and complexity while preserving freshness and purity.
The Winery: Domaine des Bernard
Domaine des Bernard is one of the Loire Valley's most exciting emerging estates. Founded in 2022 by Bernard Gault and managed by Bernard Pelé with guidance from renowned winemaker Nicolas Réau, the estate focuses on organic viticulture, manual harvesting and low-intervention winemaking.
The vineyards are planted on the celebrated slopes of Cravant-les-Coteaux, where limestone, clay and silex soils create wines of exceptional energy and mineral expression. Fermentation relies on indigenous yeasts and cellar work is kept deliberately minimal to preserve terroir authenticity.
La Côte 2023 is fermented naturally and aged for approximately 16 months in 400-litre barrels, resulting in a wine that balances depth, texture and precision.
