Michel Couvreur Intravaganza Clearach is a distinctive and unconventional creation for lovers of characterful whisky. This remarkable malt spirit demonstrates just how much flavour and personality can be found in a relatively young spirit. Powerful yet smooth, with fresh fruity notes and a generous influence from sherry casks.
The foundation of Intravaganza Clearach is a light, fruity malt distillate from Scotland. The spirit is then given approximately three years to mature in carefully selected Oloroso and Moscatel sherry casks. Maturation takes place in the remarkable underground cellars of Michel Couvreur in Bouze-lès-Beaune, in the French Burgundy region. These cool, humid cellars play an important role in developing the spirit's distinctive character.
What makes this bottling particularly special is that no water is added to reduce the alcohol strength. The spirit is bottled at its natural strength of 50% ABV, preserving its concentrated aromas and giving it a bold yet surprisingly approachable character.
In the glass, Michel Couvreur Intravaganza Clearach displays a clear amber colour. The nose opens with fresh almond, delicate malt notes and a hint of freshly cut grass. Gradually, honey-like aromas and fruity influences from the Moscatel sherry casks emerge. The overall impression is inviting and aromatic, while retaining the lively character of a young spirit.
On the palate, this Clearach is vibrant and powerful, yet remarkably easy to enjoy. Its smooth texture combines beautifully with fresh grain notes, almond, honey and fruity sherry influences. The finish is concentrated and lingering, revealing an appealing combination of cereal notes and Moscatel sherry.
