Menegotti Rosso del Veronese 2019

The Menegotti Geodoro Rosso del Veronese 2019 displays a deep ruby ​​red color in the glass with subtle garnet reflections. On the nose, intense aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, cherries, tobacco, licorice, and a hint of vanilla from the oak aging emerge. On the palate, the wine is full, round, and harmonious, with soft yet present tannins, a beautiful balance between fruit and spiciness, and a long, warm finish. The structure and complexity are reminiscent of a light Amarone della Valpolicella, but with more freshness and drinkability.

The wine is produced by Cantina Menegotti, a family business with a long tradition of making quality wines that reflect the region's terroir. The grape composition consists primarily of Corvina (approximately 50%), Rondinella (approximately 45%), and a small addition of Merlot (approximately 5%), a combination of the classic Valpolicella grapes with the international finesse of Merlot. The grapes are harvested later than usual, resulting in extra concentration of aromas and sugars, and are sometimes briefly dried using a technique reminiscent of Amarone production, which gives the wine its characteristic depth.

The vineyards are situated on moraine soils southeast of Lake Garda, in the Italian region of Veneto, formed by ancient glaciers. This provides a mineral undertone and excellent drainage, ideal for ripening red grapes. The wine is ready to drink now, but thanks to its concentration and elegance, it is also suitable for aging for several years; it will likely be at its best between now and 2028.
