The Santa Tresa Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico displays rich notes of dark, ripe cherries and berries in both the aroma and the palate. This fruity bouquet is complemented by subtle hints of dried herbs, blackberries, plums, and a touch of lightly toasted oak. On the palate, the wine has a silky mouthfeel with fine-grained tannins and an elegant yet robust structure. This is followed by a long, refined, and complex finish.
This wine is the result of the work of Stefano and Marina Girelli and their business partner Massimo Maggio. They took over the historic estate to restore it to its former glory in harmony with the local nature. The indigenous grape varieties Nero d’Avola and Frappato are grown at a high density of 5,000 to 5,500 vines per hectare, allowing for simple yet strictly controlled pruning techniques. The grapes are grown fully organically and vegan-certified, without the use of pesticides or chemicals.
The vineyards of the 50-hectare Feudo di Santa Tresa are located in Vittoria, in southeastern Sicily, where viticulture has been practiced since 1697. The area holds the unique status of being the only DOCG in Sicily. The grapes grow on a special "Terra Rossa" soil, which consists of a layer of red loam with a thick layer of limestone underneath. This limestone layer stores water like a sponge, ensuring the vines receive sufficient moisture during the warm, dry summers, while a cool southern sea breeze tempers the intense heat of the interior.
