The Sétubal Peninsula is the wine region immediately southeast of Lisbon. The Pegões region distinguishes itself by its unique terroir, characterized by a combination of poor, watery, sandy soil and a Mediterranean climate due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. The hillsides are predominantly planted with international Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and the Touriga Nacional grape, indigenous to Portugal. The coastal plain is home to Castelão, the pride of the region. The Rovisco Pais winery is a reliable source of original, fine wines with excellent value.
Vinification: Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures, followed by prolonged maceration with the skins. Aged in wooden barrels to enhance complexity.
