This is not a wine you come across every day. The grape variety Caprettone (Goat's-eye) grows on the black slopes of Vesuvius. Lava soils provide a unique fresh taste sensation with smoky and spicy aromas. Top with spicy food! Read more
The Casa Setaro winery is located in the heart of the historic Vesuvius wine growing area. Since 1995 it has been part of a protected nature reserve. Massimo Setaro, with the help of his wife Arriana, makes beautiful wines here. No chemical pesticides or herbicides are used. Under difficult warm conditions, man and nature work together to obtain the most beautiful grapes from the pitch-black and hard-as-silk soil. They are all so-called Franc de Pieds: original rootstocks. The phylloxera is unable to survive on porous volcanic soils and American rootstocks are therefore not necessary here.
However, the hard work of both farmer and plant can be tasted. Very elegant wines with enormous minerality. Massimo makes wines from the grape varieties Caprettone, Falanghina, Aglianico and Piedirosso. This last grape is the basis of the Neapolitan pride 'Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio". Since Greek times, the vineyards on these black volcanic soils have produced great wines. But for a long time, the enormous potential has not been optimally used. Massimo and Arriane Setaro try with all possible efforts to make great wines from their native soil. With success!
