Description
This Vintage Port 2015 shows a very intense deep red color. The aromas are of wild dark fruit and clearly present. In the mouth it is velvety soft and in a beautiful way in contrast is the finish in which the tannins are wonderfully rustic. The almost perfect acidity of this vintage, combined with a great concentration but this wine is great and impressive that will gain much of its time in the bottle over the years.
Morgadio da Calçada is the result of a collaboration between the two well-known Douro families Villas Boas and Niepoort. This great Vintage Port 2015 is produced from selected grapes and has been stored for 2 years. The grapes come from different vineyards located in the heart of the Douro Valley near Cima Corgo. The grapes are traditionally pressed - with the feet in Lagares. Here, hand-picked grapes are poured after harvest and pressed with the farmers' feet in the evening. Nowadays it is a rarity to press the grapes with your feet, this only happens with the very best port wines like this one. Fermentation continues until the must is dry and then pure cognac is added. Maturation takes place in old oak barrels in the cellars of Niepoort in Vila Nova de Gaia for at least 2 years before bottling.
